If you're planning to study in Europe, one of the first things worth checking is who you're actually talking to. Many websites offer to get you into a European university. Very few of them represent one.

The University of Debrecen South Asia Regional Office is the university's own office for our region. We aren't an education agency, and we don't send students to whichever institution pays the highest commission. We work for one university; we assess applications for that university, and everything we tell you comes directly from it.

We operate from offices in the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, with a new office opening in Qatar, and we work with representatives across South Asia and the Gulf. Wherever you're applying from, there's a team near you.

This guide explains who we are, the university we represent, the programs you can apply for, exactly how our admission process works, and every service we provide from your first question to your first day in Debrecen.

          Where We Are

We're structured so that students can deal with a real team in their own region, in their own time zone.

Alongside our offices, the regional office works with 12 representatives across Pakistan, India, the UAE, Bangladesh and Nepal, who help ensure a smooth journey for students in their own areas. You can find them on our representatives page.

Contact us, and we'll connect you with the office or representative closest to you. We also meet students in person at education fairs and school visits across the region throughout the year.

What being an official regional office means for you:

                  • The information we give you about requirements, deadlines, fees, and programs comes from the university itself.
                  • We assess your documents and confirm your eligibility directly, rather than passing your file on to someone else.
                  • Entrance exams and interviews are arranged in the region, so you don't have to travel to Hungary to sit them.
                  • When you qualify, your Letter of Acceptance is issued the next day.
                  • We represent one university, so nobody is steering you toward a program because of a commission.

                  The University We Represent

The University of Debrecen is one of Hungary's largest and most prestigious higher education institutions, with roots in the city going back centuries.

Debrecen is Hungary's second-largest city and a major cultural, economic and scientific centre. It's smaller and considerably more affordable than Budapest, with a large international student community, which is one reason students from our region settle in well there.

The university has been teaching in English for nearly four decades. This isn't a recent experiment in attracting international students: its structures, staff and student services were built around international cohorts over many years.

Programs You Can Apply For Through Us

The University of Debrecen offers a wide range of degree programs taught fully in English:

                        • 36 Bachelor's programs
                        • 42 Master's programs
                        • 3 one-tier medical training programs (Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy)
                        • 10 preparatory programs
                        • 16 PhD/Doctoral Schools

We handle applications at every level:

Foundation and preparatory programs. For students who need to strengthen their science subjects or academic English first. These include the Basic Medicine Course for future medical students and the International Foundation Year for future engineering, IT and business students. Complete one successfully, and you move on to your chosen degree.

Undergraduate programs. Engineering, computer science, business, agriculture, health sciences and natural sciences, alongside specialist options such as the Professional Pilot program.

Medical programs. Medicine (MD), Dentistry and Pharmacy, taught in English, with clinical training in the university's teaching hospitals.

Graduate and postgraduate programs. Master's degrees across the sciences, engineering, business, law and health fields.

PhD and doctoral programs. Sixteen doctoral schools, with supervision and research facilities across the university's disciplines.

If you're not sure which level or program fits your background, that's exactly the kind of question our admissions team answers every day.

How We Help You: Our Services

                                      1. Free eligibility assessment

Send us your academic transcripts and certificates, and our team evaluates them and tells you whether you're eligible and for which programs. This is the first step of our official application process, and it costs nothing.

It's also the most useful thing we do. Instead of guessing how your grades compare with Hungarian requirements, you get a direct answer from the people who assess applications, including whether direct entry or a foundation route makes more sense for you.

                                          2. Program and career guidance

Choosing between Medicine and a health sciences degree, or between a taught Master's and a PhD, shapes years of your life. We talk you through what each program involves, how long it takes, what it costs, and what graduates go on to do.

                                            3. Application support

Once your eligibility is confirmed, we guide you through the application: the form, the fee payment, and the supporting documents. Applications can be submitted through our online portal, and our admissions team checks that everything is complete before it goes forward, so small errors don't hold you up.

                                              4. Entrance exams and interviews in your own country

Admission to the University of Debrecen is based on your academic record plus the university's entrance exam and/or interview. We arrange these within the region, so you don't need to travel to Hungary.

                                              • Medical applicants take a written exam in Biology and Chemistry or Physics, plus an interview.
                                              • Non-medical applicants take a written exam covering English and subjects relevant to their program, plus an interview.
                                              • Master's applicants usually take an interview covering motivation, previous studies, and subject knowledge.

Official sample papers and exam topics are available in our Downloads section, so you know exactly what to prepare. Online exams by video call are available for applicants who can't attend in person.

                                                5. Fast admission decisions

Upon successfully qualifying in the entrance exam and/or interview, we issue your Letter of Acceptance the very next day. In a process where waiting is usually the hardest part, that speed lets you move on to fees, visa appointments, and travel planning without losing weeks.

                                                  6. Scholarship and fee guidance

We explain which scholarships and tuition discounts you may qualify for, including the university's own scholarship options, merit-based tuition reductions for strong academic performance, sibling discounts for families with several students, and the Stipendium Hungaricum government scholarship.

We also set out the fee structure clearly: tuition, the one-time application fee of USD 150 and entrance procedure fee of USD 350, when each payment falls due, and what your tuition already includes.

                                                      7. Visa guidance

After your acceptance and payment, you'll need a Hungarian student visa. Because we work across several countries, we know that consulate requirements and timelines differ from place to place. We help you understand what your consulate asks for, make sure your university documents are in order, and plan a realistic timeline for your intake.

                                                        8. Pre-departure and arrival guidance

We tell you what to expect before you fly and during your first weeks: accommodation options, registration at the university, the residence permit process, living costs and settling into Debrecen.

                                                          9. Support for schools and education partners

We visit schools, brief counsellors and attend education fairs across the region, and we work with authorised representatives in several countries. If you're a school or an education partner interested in working with us, our representatives section explains how to get in touch.

Our Admission Process, Step by Step

Step 1: Document-based initial assessment. Share your academic transcripts and certificates with our team. We evaluate them and inform you about your eligibility.

Step 2: Fee and application form. Once your eligibility is confirmed, you pay the application fee and/or entrance procedure fee and submit the completed application form with all required documents to our admissions team.

Step 3: Scheduling of your exam. The university schedules your entrance exam and/or entrance interview.

Step 4: Letter of Acceptance. Upon successfully qualifying, we issue your Letter of Acceptance the very next day.

Our admissions team guides you at every step, answers your questions, and keeps the process moving.

                                                                      Documents You'll Need

You can also prove your English with other language certificates, good GED, SAT, or ACT results, or an official certificate from your school or university confirming that your previous studies were in English. We can also conduct an online interview to assess your English communication skills.

One special requirement: citizens, nationals, or permanent residents of the United States applying for Medicine must submit MCAT results.

                                                                          Deadlines and Intakes

February intake. Direct entry to Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy isn't offered in February; medical applicants can start with Basic Medicine Course II, the intensive premedical course that runs from January to July.

September intake. The main intake, with the full range of programs, including direct entry to medical degrees. PhD deadlines typically fall in mid-May and other programs in mid-June. Medical places in particular fill early, so apply well before the deadline.

Contact your nearest office for the exact dates that apply to your program and intake.

Our events page lists what's coming up. If we're visiting a city near you, come and see us.

                                                                                      What Our Students Say

Students who applied through our offices are now studying across the university's programs.

Al Nasar Ahmed, studying Molecular Biology (MSc), describes it as an affordable way to gain European experience alongside a quality education. Roshan Jijo, on the Professional Pilot program, says the past year has been one of the best of his life. Marvi, a PhD student in Molecular Medicine, chose the university for the standing of its medical school. Kazi Mahfuzur Rahman, an LLM student, joined the university after receiving his Hungarian student visa.

You can read more student experiences on our testimonials page.

Why Apply Through the Regional Office

Because the information is official. Requirements, fees, deadlines, and program details come from the university, not from a third party summarising a website.
